Ben Tanner is a record producer, audio engineer, mixer, and musician based in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Born and raised in the Shoals area, Tanner moved to Memphis to attend college, followed by a year’s sojourn in Paris, France. After returning to the Shoals, Tanner began work at the iconic FAME Recording as the studio’s chief engineer and studio manager. In 2009, Tanner left FAME to focus fulltime on life as a freelance producer/engineer + touring musician.

It was then Tanner, along with partners John Paul White (The Civil Wars) and Will Trapp, founded the independent label, Single Lock Records. In charge of all in-house production and engineering for all label releases, Tanner’s credits include St Paul and the Broken Bones’ debut album Half The City, Dylan LeBlanc's critically acclaimed Cautionary Tale, and Lera Lynn’s Plays Well With Others duets album.

Tanner has also been the keyboardist for Alabama Shakes since 2011 and performed on both of the band’s Grammy-winning and nominated albums, Boys and Girls and Sound and Color.
